"RYOKAN" GUIDE

“Ryokan” is a traditional Japanese-style hotel. Most Ryokans are built in a classic Japanese architecture where you can see a typical Japanese building facade. At a Ryokan you will experience a part of Japanese culture and customs - staying in a room with “Tatami (straw mat)”, and having typical Japanese cuisine! As there are many “Onsen (hot springs)” in Japan, taking an open-air big bath is one of the pleasures of staying at a Ryokan. After taking a bath, it would be another enjoyment to explore a town nearby in a Yukata (Japanese robe) like Japanese people do.

Please note that the fee system of Ryokan is different from that of a Western-style hotel.
The Ryokan charge is basically for “one night’s stay with two meals”. The evening meal on the day of your arrival and breakfast on the following morning are included in the price.

JAF’s SYC&S program offers you 10% discount on the usual Ryokan charge (except taxes and service charges) at its Ryokan Partners.
SYC&S discounts are not valid on any other discount or promotional rates.

Advance booking is necessary to receive SYC&S discounts. Please make a reservation by phone and let the operator know that you would like to receive the same discount as JAF member, through SYC&S Program.
Make sure you present your valid club membership card or discount card with the SYC&S or SYC mark on it when you check in.
If you fail to do so you may not be entitled to any discount.
Most Ryokans accept credit card.
